February 26 - First Troop Meeting and Parent Orientation #1 (Topic - What to Expect at Troop 1865), St George's UMC at 730pm
March 4 - Troop Meeting and Parent Orientation #2 (Topic - Camping gear 101), St George's UMC at 7:30pm
March 9 - New Scout Campout
March 11 - Troop Meeting and Parent Orientation #3 (Topic - Advancement), Oak View Cafe at 7:30pm
June 23-29 - Summer Camp
Camping Information
New Scout Campout - March 9-10 at Camp Snyder in Haymarket, VA. On this campout Troop Guides will introduce the boys to basic camping skills—pitching tents, using the camp stoves safely, cooking, washing dishes, etc.
Shooting Sports Campout, April 13th - 15th at Fallen Springs Lodge near Wardensville, WV. - The first full troop campout your son can participate in is our shooting sports camp out. At the camp out, scouts will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in a wide variety of shooting sports under the supervision of trained and certified adult instructors.
*We’ll cover everything you need to know about these camp outs during the orientation meetings. Don’t worry about buying a lot of new equipment if you don’t have everything right away—we have some gear to lend as well as stoves and other patrol gear. See list of basic gear below.
New Scout Camping Gear

Clothing - this includes clothes for different weather situations.

Duffle bag or gym bag.

Headgear - recommend a hat for winter sleeping, warmth, protection from sun…

Boots are best, but sneakers are OK.

RAIN GEAR- this is an extreme must

Mess kit- including plate, bowl, cup, spoon, fork, knife.

Hygiene kit- includes tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper

Note:
No knives or lighters.
The new scouts do not yet have their appropriate badges that allow them to carry these items.
